Warm smiles greeted guests and friends alike at Alpha Introductory Dinners and Lunches across Singapore these few weeks. Over 50 churches and 10 work places joined hands at this year’s Alpha Invitation to offer people an opportunity to hear about the Alpha Course and sign up for it.

“It is heartening to see how churches of various sizes and denominations have risen to the occasion and extended invitations to their network of families, friends and colleagues.” observed Vinnie Tang, (Acting) National Director.

“This is our third run of Alpha and we find that it is very effective for outreach,” shared Michael Khoo, Alpha Coordinator, Bethesda (Katong) Church. “We are encouraged by the turnout at this evening’s Alpha Introductory Dinner, in fact, God has tripled the number of guests attending this evening.”

And despite the heavy rainfall in the late afternoon, the turnout at St John’s –St Margaret’s Church’s Alpha Introductory Dinner was phenomenal - more then 600 guests attended the event that evening.

Over at Covenant Presbyterian Church a delicious lunch buffet was served by helpers to guests on a sunny Saturday afternoon.  “It is wonderful to see the people of God using their different gifts to serve the Lord. We are indeed richly blessed by the experiences in Alpha. It is my prayer that the entire church will catch the vision of what God can do in and through the Alpha Course. I hope to see more people involved in running the Alpha Course in future” said Pastor Christina Ong. 

There was plenty of laughter at Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church’s second Senior Alpha Introductory Lunch. Guests gamely participated in ice breaker games after lunch before sitting down for Elder Jeffery Goh’s lively talk.

Not only were there Introductory events for the Alpha Course in English, guests such as those at Paya Lebar Chinese Methodist Church attended an Alpha in Chinese Introductory Dinner.

Some churches have been conducting the Alpha Course for a number of years and this year is no different. Laurence Lim, Alpha Coordinator, St Andrew's Cathedral said, “Since the 1990's the Cathedral has run the Alpha Course and we have seen many lives transformed. Praise God!”
